On a related RS/Tandy note, in 2020 I discovered - to my “surprise” - that the USB/RS-232 adapter cable that I’d originally purchased at Radio Shack circa 2010-2013, was actually one with a counterfeit Prolific chip in it.
Which Prolific’s Mac drivers detected, and therefore refused to work with it.
*Thankfully* I had another dongle with me at the time, so I could do what I needed to, but… that Radio Shack USB/RS232 cable has since been relegated to G4-Mini-Only status as a result.

I put surprise in quotes, because here in 2025, it makes a lot of sense that Radio Shack would have acquired those adapters from the absolute rock bottom cheapest supplier.
(Mind you, the whole serial adapter business is so riddled with Prolific counterfeits, that I basically only buy those with FTDI chips.)

I grew up to be an adult who doesn’t have trouble saying ‘no’ when asked for e-mail addresses and phone numbers by retail employees, because I grew up shopping at Radio Shack.

LOL, you can’t even use the video without the audio for _anything_ found on that tape. Incredible… and disappointing… but not entirely outside the realm of understanding.
That’s the copyright owner’s choice, and we’ll respect that. We’ll just have to do the still frames instead. (Which, incredibly enough, isn’t exactly a huge loss in respect to this “first.”)
