For a simple Alby Hub you don't even need a VPS. A simple PC is enough.
You can choose as backend funding source a LDK node that run smoothly on that PC and open 2-3 channels and done. Not even need to open ports or touch your router, all run smoothly in the background.
Not all LN node must be PUBLIC or full nodes. This where many noobs do not understand.
A VPS is necessary when you run a full PUBLIC LN node at home in a proper machine, with full blocks synced etc and you do not want to reveal your home IP. Then you use a VPS with wireguard making a tunnel towards your node machine and all the node traffic is done through that VPS IP: So that will use very little resources of the VPS. Also you can use that VPS IP as your personal VPN, for the traffic of your all other devices.…

Thank you, but I have a few problems:
1- I live in Iran and am under US sanctions, so most LSPs do not serve me.
2- WireGuard is blocked in Iran, but OpenVPN is open.
3- I do not have enough sats to open a channel.
4- I am not a newbie, I have been a Linux user since 2007, and setting up a Linux VPS is easy for me, but I am too old to bother with documentations and codes. So I think using a custodial LN provider is more suitable for me.

in regards of point 4, you can start with a VPS paid with sats Or use rizful.com - a LN node in the cloud. So you can open LN channels with whatever LSP you want, no restrictions.

For appendicitis are you going to see a surgeon or going to remove it yourself?
If am to do something drastic like non consenting to taxes and fight the system I would like as many like-minded professionals as possible with financial and legal knowledge.
On a solo action against the system you/me/we have zero chance. But we can step out of the system and denounce the US citizenship and move out of the country (i.e.roger Ver...)
Emotions in such case are not our friends... And NoSTR not (yet) exactly the platform to spark revolution...

Yes, for many my words could sound harsh and arrogant, but truth must be told and usually truth hurts. But where were those that today can't afford to open a LN channel in 2010-2012-2014-2018 ? Playing with shitcoins right? Or not even that...
yeah, in some specific cases, like in Cuba where is damn hard to keep online a LN node, a use of offline ecash local mint could move things forward. Or as I explained in one of my guides, a specific use case of a merchant. ecash tokens are literally gift cards, so in particular cases, could be useful.
